MY PERSPECTIVE:

Letting our movement become great teachers in ways of how we live.

I honestly stand by this statement. I believe that there is so much gold inside the process of researching how our bodies move, from the movement choices we make, how it can be viewed from the outside to how it makes us feel on the inside. When we come to meet our physicality in its purest and honest form, our inner landscape clearly matches our outer landscape.

At times, when we are in a state of listening— the body can just float inside the comfort of what feels good to us and neglect potential opportunities to learn from being in and out of our comfort zones, what is beyond our limits and the insights we receive from putting effort. Our goal for this space is to fully embrace ‘the research’ (the trial and errors inside exploring) and allow the process to open new possibilities in moving making and story telling.

When we learn how to communicate with our bodies as we become physically honest in the way we sense, our movement become great teachers in ways of how we live a life that is honest, liberating, authentic and clear.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

In this online movement workshop series, I am curious to work with a group of 11 dancers and non-dancers. We will start with a body activation class combining my knowledge in Gaga, contemporary dance and improvisation to make the body available for sensations, deep listening and creative movement. We will then create a container to discuss how LISTEN, FLOW & LET GO work together in the flow of our movement. As we sense these elements through researching movement, we begin to find the relationship of how this insightful process can deeply be integrated into the fabric of our lives.

In this workshop, we will break down these 3 essential elements:

What is listen? How can we articulate structures, patters of movement, clear tasks and connect it to the structures in our daily routines and rituals? What can we discover inside the clarity of our form, how we communicate clearly with others and ourselves?

What is flow? How can we get familiar with the range of forces we can tap into within us from graceful to chaotic forces in our movement? How can we welcome and work with forces that can come from outside of us (wind, clothes, etc)?

How can we meet letting go inside articulating our form and working with force? Inside these walls of limitation, how can we sense the range of freedom we can experience in creating movement?

How can we integrate the power of these three elements into our work? Let’s dive into this work and find out together!
